LMU HCI Winter School
14th Febuary 2025
I had the pleasure of attending the 2025 LMU Winterschool in Söllerhaus, titled "Research Training in HCI".
This event focussed on the changes that generative AI bring to the field of HCI, and how they can both help and hinder our field, with interactive workshops highlighting the importance of building context for AI.
During this workshop I have been thinking about AI's balance between trust and efficacy.
As the technology continues to develop it is becoming clear that its place in our world is a nuanced one, where results can be acceptably wrong, and humans act as a part of the pipeline, rather than being totally replaced.
Therefore the importance to stay on top of the latest technology through workshops like these is as relevant as ever.
We have also discussed generated research, and how real-world experiments and results are something that cannot be created without humans in the world, no matter how advanced the technology one day becomes.
Overall, this event has developed my practical skills in ethically using AI for research and development, triggerred thought and discussion about the place the technology has, and will have, in our society, and, most importantly, provided the opportunity to meet a broad team of excellent researchers across LMU, DFKI, DLR, and many more.
